Ford has improved them for 2003. a new 6. 0-liter diesel engine brings more power and reduced emissions to the super duty line. The standard 5. 4-liter v8 gas engine has been revised for quieter and more refined operation. The base interior is nicer, and a power sliding moon roof is available for crew cabs. Those changes, plus new option packages make the 2003 f-350 and f-250 models more people-friendly. still, these trucks aren't designed to be family-sedan substitutes that make an occasional run to home depot. Ford's full-size but lighter-duty f-150 is more than enough truck for that job. The super duty pickups look like serious big rigs, and they are. ford super duty trucks don't offer the chassis sophistication of the newer designs from gm and dodge, but their new and revised powertrains are first-class. . lineuplike most domestic pickups, the ford super duty is offered in more configurations than any normal human can count. Any one of them can pull anything from a horse trailer to an airstream camper. They are all the truck most consumers will ever need. (if not, ford builds bigger f-450, f-550, f-650, and f-750 trucks for the commercial market.) f-250 and f-350 are available in regular-cab, extended-cab (supercab) and crew cab configurations. F-350 models are available with single rear wheels (srw) or dual rear wheels (drw). The latter, often called 'duallies,' are good for towing as they offer higher tongue-weight ratings. ford super duty f-250 competes with the other heavyweights from detroit: dodge ram 2500, chevrolet silverado 2500, and gmc sierra 2500. F-350 dual rear wheel trucks compete with the 3500-series models from gm and dodge. Xl models are pretty basic, with only a two-speaker stereo and fixed-interval wipers. The new heavy-duty rams are more stylish, while the gm trucks are too conservatively styled. The fords have a brawny, no-nonsense look that is appealing. unlike ford f-150 pickups, the f-250 super duty looks like a big rig. While 2003 f-150s have rounded edges, the super duty trucks look bluff-nosed and serious. Their menacing, square-jawed front ends, brawny raised hoods and aggressive headlamps announce significant engineering differences between a garden-variety f-150 and a super duty. Super duty trucks ride on an entirely different platform from f-150 models. super duty's dropped beltline gives it a sense of openness and accessibility. It also makes it easier to climb in, a welcome feature when juggling tools, briefcases, or even toddlers. A distinctive dip along the front door side glass improves the driver's view of the exterior mirrors, a big help when towing a trailer or for seeing around cargo boxes or dump truck bodies. A locking tailgate is standard. new telescoping trailer mirrors are available for 2003; they feature power adjustments, heated glass and integral turn signal repeaters, and telescope manually. . interiorford super duty trucks are very roomy, with comfortable and spacious seats and plenty of hip and shoulder room. truck owners spend a lot of time in their vehicles, so the designers at ford paid a lot of attention to comfort and convenience. The interior features a fold-down armrest, a floor console that can accommodate a laptop, and a removable hanging storage bin that can attach to the dash. Controls are big and easy to reach and manipulate. The only exception is the instrument panel dimmer, which is a bit hard to reach. Two large cupholders are provided. The standard cigar lighter is augmented with a second auxiliary power outlet. The instrument cluster includes a transmission temperature gauge when an automatic transmission is ordered. xl models have been upgraded for 2003 with higher-quality cloth and vinyl on the standard bench seat, and a bucket seat option 390). The f-150 was completely redesigned for 2009. For 2011, ford f-150 features an entirely new engine lineup, and most 2011 f-150 models come with electric-assist steering. smooth and quiet, the f-150 is comfortable on bumpy streets around town, over rugged terrain like construction sites, farms and utility roads, and on the open highway. Its steering is nicely weighted and requires little correction on the highway making it nice for long cross-country tows. Yet even the least-expensive f-150 isn't boring; it leaves room for customization, does the work required and keeps overhead down. with one of the deepest beds in the segment, the f-150 has generous cargo volume out back and a maximum payload rating of 3,060 pounds; most versions carry 1,600-2,100 pounds. Any cab model f-150 can be optioned to tow more than 11,000 pounds; the range varies from 5,500-11,300 pounds. (the ford super duty line of heavy-duty pickups is covered in a separate new car test drive review.) two v8 and two v6 engines are offered, all with six-speed automatic transmissions. Standard on 2wd is a 302-hp 3. 7-liter v6. Other choices include a 360-hp 5-liter v8 for all cab/bed configurations, a 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8 on supercrew short beds, and a 365-hp twin-turbo 3. 5-liter v6 on all but regular cab/short beds. Several axle ratios are offered with each engine. a new 2011 f-150 xlt custom package slots between xlt and fx models. On the upper end are the king ranch, platinum and lariat limited models. The harley-davidson edition returns for 2011 with a 411-hp v8, the same engine now standard on the serious off-road raptor. Supercab trucks add higher fx and lariat trim to choices plus svt's raptor, and a short-bed option (about 5. 5 feet). A long-bed supercab is available only with the heavy-duty package. The supercrew f-150, available with either the short bed or standard bed, drops the stx grade and adds king ranch and platinum derivatives while harley-davidson and lariat limited are supercrew short bed only. the f-150 xl (starting at $22,415) is a standard bed, regular cab two-wheel drive. More equipment is available, including 18-inch wheels, sirius radio, sync, cruise control, fog lamps and power mirrors. f-150 xlt (from $26,685) adds chrome for bumpers and trim, power mirrors, remote keyless entry, automatic headlamps, carpeting, cruise control, power windows and locks, and better cloth upholstery. All manner of options are available on the xlt, including three wheel diameters, tailgate step, cargo management and towing equipment. f-150 fx4 and fx2 come with a 5-liter v8, black grille and body-colored bumpers, trim and mirrors. Options include infotainment and 17-inch (for more severe off-road use) or 20-inch wheels. Chrome trim and bumpers highlight monotone paint, and the lariat adds heated mirrors with signal repeaters and auto-dimming on the driver's and inside, dual-zone climate control, heated power leather seats with driver memory, leather wheel with redundant audio controls, tow package, sync, trip computer, and power adjustable pedals. Options include 20-inch wheels, heated/cooled front seats, sony sound and navigation, trailer brake controller, rear camera and park sensors, and moonroof. f-150 king ranch (from $41,790) is like a lariat with a different attitude. It adds two-tone paint and kr badges, unique wheels, mesh chrome grille, chaparral leather heated and cooled power captain's chairs with driver memory, running boards, and power folding, heated, signal outside mirrors with chrome caps. Options are essentially limited to a limited-slip differential, alternative axle ratios, 20-inch wheels, sony sound and navigation systems, moonroof, chrome tube running boards and remote start. f-150 platinum supercrew (from $43,600) gets a unique satin chrome grille, body-color bumpers and wheel lip moldings, 20-inch wheels, power-deploy/retract running boards, satin chrome tailgate trim, tuxedo-stitched leather power captain's chairs, wood grain and brushed aluminum trim, rain-sensing wipers, power folding/heated mirrors, and unique console. It comes only with the 411-hp 6. 2-liter v8. Most options are dependent on the model and other options, and many features are standard on more expensive models. In addition, prices of options occasionally vary by trim level. mechanical options include engine upgrades, alternate axle ratios, limited-slip or locking differentials, larger tires and upgraded wheels, skid plates, towing mirrors, snow plow prep (with 6. 2 v8), trailer brake controller 230), 36-gallon long-bed fuel tank, tailgate step, heavy-duty payload package, and ford works systems like an in-dash computer. We found the towing mirrors work very well. pillars between the doors (called b-pillars) and the rear hand-hold on the pillar may yield an awkward blind spot for some drivers, but everyone should appreciate the windshield pillars (called a-pillars) shaped to help preserve forward vision.

Altogether, the 2010 mustang is much more refined than any previous model when it comes to noise, a much more comfortable car to be in, whether cruising or a full throttle. the 2010 mustang has a completely new chiseled approach to interior design, with throwback instrument design complemented by softer-feeling surfaces throughout, and the use of real aluminum plates on the fascias, pedal covers, scuff plates and shifter knob. Interior ambient lighting in the door pockets, cupholders and footwells is a new interior feature, and the lighting colors can be changed through a range of 125 colors with the flip of a switch with the new mycolor system. new interior and entertainment features for mustang include a rear-facing video camera, the sync voice-activated hands-free system for the first time in a mustang, featuring sirius satellite radio and satellite navigation with sirius travel link. The new leather-clad steering wheel is a massive affair with six brushed metal spokes in three groups of two, with cruise controls switches and controls for the sound system, a wheel that gives a very big feeling of command. The leather interiors are of a higher grade than ever, the console can now be locked to hide valuables. The instrument panel is made in a single piece. we found the new mustang is much quieter than the old car, with improvements in wind noise, road noise, mirror noise and powertrain noise. The radio antenna is moved to the rear to eliminate noise, the wiper design is changed to flatter blades that don't make as much noise, the washer nozzles are inside the hood, and the mirrors are reshaped. The redline has been raised 250 rpm to 6500 rpm for 2010. The engine has two built-in calibrations for regular or premium fuel (the use of premium fuel adds up to 10 foot-pounds of torque between 1000 and 3000 rpm, they tell us). the new engine gets its cold intake air from a system built into the grille, not under the hood, the lowest-restriction air intake system ever on the mustang, with an air induction sound pipe that goes right into the cockpit to make it more pleasing to the driver at full throttle. Ford says the fresh air system alone is worth three tenths of a second in 0-60 mph acceleration improvement because the engine makes much more power with cold air. On the exhaust side, the v-8 version gets 3. 5-inch exhaust pipes versus 3. 0-inch pipes on the last mustang, and the v-6 version gets 3. 0-inch exhaust pipes instead of 2. 5-inch pipes. The standard axle ratio is 3. 31:1, with two optional ratios, 3. 55:1 or 3. 73:1, which automatically comes with larger brakes. the gt chassis has been upgraded and stiffened using parts and pieces from the 2009 bullitt mustang, which means it rides tauter, turns in quicker and has less pitch, dive and body roll than any previous mustang, as much as 20 percent less body roll. The gt rides on 235/50r18 tires, with 245/45r19 tires optional. If the 19-inch tire and wheel option is selected, the car will automatically be built with a strut tower brace under the hood to connect the two front struts for more strength and better, more accurate handling. the new tires, whether 17-, 18-, or 19-inch, have been chosen for their much higher levels of both wet and dry grip, and ford says the 19-inch tires can produce skidpad performance exceeding 0. 9g, which is very, very good for such a low-priced car. abs brakes, traction control and advancetrac yaw control are standard on all models. For track work, both the traction control and the yaw control can be turned off (but not the abs), and there is a sport mode which allows higher handling limits before traction and yaw controls are called in to save the day. with all of that as prelude, the gt v-8 is an absolute blast to drive.
